The Cabool High School band has received permission for a spring 2016 trip to the Alpine Classic Music Festival in Breckenridge, Colorado.
The trip will run March 31 through April 2, 2016 and funds will be raised by band students and boosters to cover the trip’s cost, estimated at $10,000 to $12,000. Band director Wendy Inman said the band has raised about half that amount at this time. Fundraisers will be held to secure the balance of the amount needed.

The trip proposal was outlined for Cabool Board of Education Monday evening by senior band members Jared Luerssen and Tray Wiggs. They noted the growth in the band over the past three years, going from 12 members in 2012-13 to 24 in 2013-14 and 31 in 2014-15. Forty-five members are expected for the 2015-16 school year.

As a marching band, students represent Cabool in an average of six marching festivals and parades annually and provide entertainment at home football games. The winter and spring finds the concert band competing in district and state festivals, including solo and small ensemble performances, and the band also provides concerts for the community, as well as a pep band for school and community events.

“I’m excited about the improvement our band has made in the last few years,” school board president Ted Noirfalise said.

Superintendent Dr. Wesley Davis said Inman has done an excellent job with the band program. “The evidence is in the data. Look at the enrollment,” he said this week.

The school board unanimously approved allowing the band to attend.

The CHS band attended the Breckenridge festival three years ago and brought home second place.
