Wood, a junior at Cabool High School, will be heading to Nashville, Tennessee, for an early morning audition Saturday, January 14. It’s part of regional auditions of singers hoping to one day make it big in the music industry, possibly by winning a spot to compete on the popular TV show.
This is not Wood’s first time to try out for the show. Last year she went to Chicago. She says this year’s process should be similar to last year’s. “We went in in groups of ten. When the producer or judge called our name, we sang one verse and the chorus (of their chosen song).” She said two persons were then chosen to advance to the next round of competition. She was not among them last year, but hopes to advance this year.
Wood will be performing “Burning Home” by country singer Cam.
The CHS student says music is an important part of her life. She is in band, choir and music appreciation classes.
Asked why she signed up to audition for “The Voice,” Wood said, “I want to put myself out there and music is what I want to do.”
She will be accompanied to Nashville by her parents, Terri and Shane, and an older brother.
