"I wonder about...aviation"

“I wonder about...aviation” students have learned about aviation through making paper airplanes, launchers, and helicopters. We learned about the forces acting on airplanes: thrust, lift, drag, and gravity that effect the effectiveness of the distance the plane travels. We performed an experiment in which students researched different types of paper airplanes, used different weights of paper and other materials available to make their own planes. Then students researched and made airplane launchers. They were responsible for taking data about their airplanes: length, width of wings, distance plane flew, materials used, and weight. After they launched their planes and measured distance they were able to throw them by hand; we discussed which was most successful and what forces were effecting the distance of the plane.
