Lady Bulldogs take second in Koshkonong tournament!

The varsity Lady Bulldogs competed last week in the Koshkonong Invitational Tournament, bringing home second place.

Cabool first took on Lutie on December 29, winning 60-21. Kaila Shannon made 13 points; Katlynn Ellison, 12; Alyssa Matherly, 12; Kaitlen Beller, 12; Jaydra Johnson, 10; and Adrian Fleetwood, 1.

Johnson made 12 rebounds; 2 steals and 1 assist; Beller, 11 rebounds, 2 steals; 4 assists; Matherly, 7 rebounds, 1 block, 6 steals, 6 assists; Ellison, 5 rebounds, 5 steals, 6 assists; Shannon, 5 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 assist; Fleetwood, 1 rebound, 2 steals; Kiley Kelly, 1 rebound.

On December 30, Cabool played Koshkonong and won 62-46. Matherly led the Lady Bulldogs’ scoring with 23 points, followed by Shannon, 17; Ellison, 12; and Johnson, 10.

Matherly made 9 rebounds, 5 steals and 2 assists; Johnson, 6 rebounds, 1 block, 2 assists; Beller, 4 rebounds, 1 block, 2 assists; Shannon, 3 rebounds, 3 steals; Kelly, 1 rebound; Ellison, 1 steal, 3 assists.

Cabool then played for the championship on December 31, facing Couch. The Lady Bulldogs lost 54-36. Stats for the game were not available at press time.

“I was really proud of the girls for how they played. We did not shoot the ball extremely well, but we were able to battle through that adversity and pick up some wins,” Coach Rance Beller said of the Lady Bulldogs’ tournament play. “Against Couch we just did not take care of the ball well enough to give ourselves a chance to win.”

The Lady Bulldogs’ record stood at 6-5 heading into the 2017 portion of their season.
