Middle schoolers battle it out with graphing coordinates!

posted Jun 8, 2017, 6:14 AM by Cabool R-IV Schools
The 7th and 8th graders have been working on graphing on the coordinate plane. To begin the week, they practiced using coordinates by playing battleship using a Cartesian grid. Later in the week they practiced using a life size battleship Cartesian grid, in which they placed their bodies on the grid as ships, and had to call  out coordinates that corresponded to coordinates. If they were hit a water balloon was popped over their head. Throughout the week they worked on a scavenger hunt in which they had a map of the school on a Cartesian grid, they had clues which included one step equations, number lines, absolute value, and graphing coordinates that led them to their coordinates that they had to graph on the school grid which corresponded to a room number where they found a puzzle piece, the group that completed the puzzle first won the scavenger hunt.
