The regular 2015-16 school term may be over, but the halls of Cabool Schools are anything but quiet, with summer school in progress at the middle school building and major renovation projects at both the elementary and high schools.
Summer school opened May 23 and completed the first week of its four-week run with over 300 students attending from kindergarten through high school. Kindergarten through eighth grade classes are under way at Cabool Middle School while high school classes are being held at the high school campus.
Cabool Elementary School is in the midst of a window replacement project by Mill Valley Construction Company. The $296,000 project includes replacing single-pane window panels with insulated panels and more energy efficient double-pane windows. Both wings of the elementary school will receive new windows.
At Cabool High School’s “A” building, restroom renovation is under way by Peterson Construction. A one-unit handicap-accessible restroom facility will be built at the north end of the main hall. This will include a baby changing station. The restroom will be non-gender specific, able to used by males or females.
The boys’ restroom at the south end is being completely reworked and when completed will be similar to the restrooms in the “B” building. It will be handicap-accessible and equipped with automatic sinks, hand dryers and flushing systems.
The restroom renovation project cost is $153,200.
Also at the high school, the sound system in the auditorium will be upgraded this summer with help of a $20,000 donation from Cabool Development Foundation. Some lighting will also be replaced.
Also needed at the auditorium is a changing room and restroom, along with storage for sets and other stage items. The building that housed these in the past was lost in a fire in 1971. To help replace the facility, Cabool Alumni Association has launched a fundraising campaign.
