Students at Cabool Elementary School were amazed and inspired by a presentation last Thursday by Robyn (Douglass) Slain.

Slain grew up in the area and attended school at Mountain Grove before heading to Bolivar for college at Southwest Baptist University. She is now a motivational speaker who travels around the country using her skills and talents of ball handling to promote positive behavior and attitudes.

Slain, who lives in Florida with her husband and two children, has performed at NBA and WNBA halftimes, college events and even summer basketball camps. In her presentations, she shares her experience of starting from scratch and making it all the way to the top where she is now one of three women in the United States that can spin ten basketballs at one time on different places on her body, a skill she demonstrated for CES students March 11.

“Her message to our students was to work hard and to do whatever you are good at, to never give up even if people are not encouraging you, and to believe in themselves no matter what,” elementary school principal Aaron Miller said.
