Cabool High School senior Cody Spencer was honored last week as the male “Student of the Year” at Ozark Mtn. Technical Center in Mtn. Grove.
Spencer also received a medal for competing at the state level in Skills USA. He competed in the written and hands-on competitions for automotive service, taking first in the written portion and fifth in the hands-on portion. He was awarded a $4,000 scholarship to the University of Northwestern Ohio based on his performance in the competition.
In addition, Spencer and the rest of his class at OMTC received ASE Student Master certification for auto mechanics. To become master certified, Spencer passed nine tests, including brakes, steering and suspension, engine performance, engine repair, electrical, HVAC, automatic transmission, manual transmission, and general maintenance.
J.T. Hale, director of Ozark Mtn. Technical Center, presented Spencer with the Student of the Year award. The Skills USA award was presented by Shawn Hines, Skills USA advisor. The ASE certification was given by John Emery, automotive technology teacher at OMTC.
