Teams combine efforts to raise funds for young cancer patient.

Opponents on the court but allies in the fight against cancer, the varsity girls’ basketball teams from Cabool and Houston participated in a “Play For A Cure” event at Cabool High School gymnasium Monday evening.

Over $2,400 was raised with all the money going to the family of Paisley Collins, a 17-month-old girl from Houston who is undergoing treatment for leukemia. The funds came from T-shirt sales in advance of the event and also at the game, a silent auction held that evening, and from donations. The referees for the evening, Randy Ward and Jeff Valade, even donated their game checks to the cause.

Also during the event, survivors of all types of cancer were recognized. Brightly colored T-shirts designated the different types of cancer.

Members of both girls’ teams signed a game ball to be presented to Paisley Collins.
