Welcome to Hogwarts!

posted Jun 8, 2017, 6:11 AM by Cabool R-IV Schools

In Mrs. Donnalley's Welcome to Hogwarts class students made dragons eggs (pictured below) using alum, water, eggs, and food coloring. After painting the inside of an egg shell with glue and coating it with alum powder (found in most grocery stores alum is used in some pickling recipes) students let them dry overnight. Then next students mixed one cup of almost boiling water, half a cup of alum, and a food color of their choice. Students stirred the mixture until all the alum is dissolved and placed their egg in the mixture.

The next day we examined our eggs to see the crystals that had grown overnight! In this class we also made our own wands, made some food from the books, we were sorted into our American houses, and watched the movie Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
