FEMA Shelter
Information on the FEMA Shelter
The Cabool R-IV School District FEMA building constructed with Federal Emergency Management Agency grant money and local school district funds, is located on the north side of the high school “B” building (old grade school building). It can be accessed from Second Street behind the school or by entering the “B” building from the high school parking lot. Anyone can come to the shelter during threatening weather, day or night. Signage throughout the high school area guides persons to the shelter.
It is important to note that should the shelter reach its occupancy capacity or should a tornado hit, the shelter doors will be locked by emergency personnel and no one else will be admitted until the storm has passed, so if you plan to seek shelter there, do so as soon as possible once weather warnings are issued.
When not in use during actual bad weather, the shelter is used as the high school cafeteria, as the district constructed a kitchen adjacent to it.
