Veterans Day Essay Winners

VFW Post 473 proudly recognized two outstanding Cabool students for their achievements in this year’s national essay competitions on Tuesday, November 11, 2025. 

Logan Box was awarded the Patriot’s Pen Scholarship, receiving $500 for his thoughtful and well-written essay on patriotism. Austin Owens earned the Voice of Democracy Scholarship, receiving $1,000 for his exceptional audio essay.

Established in 1947, the Voice of Democracy audio-essay program gives high school students the opportunity to express themselves on democratic and patriotic themes. Each year, nearly 25,000 students in grades nine through twelve compete for their share of over $1 million in scholarships and awards. The 2025–26 theme, “How Are You Showing Patriotism and Support for Our Country?” challenged students to share their personal reflections on supporting their nation.
